The Black Cat Crowdfounding
“Clouds darkened the moon above Havena, and only flickering candlelight seeping through the stained-glass windows of a tavern prevented the alley from sinking into complete darkness.
As if in defiance, she walked down the alley, as if she were the mistress of all these houses, stalls and corners of the city. The night has been little successful so far; a fish head at the harbor, too little to be satisfied. But if necessary, the butcher was left.
She jumped on a barrel and effortlessly pulled up the wooden fence. The pile of the butcher was promising. You just had to know which part of the courtyard was safe.
Quickly she balanced the fence and jumped silently down beside the old oak tree. She looked satisfied to the big box on the other side of the yard. It was probably getting hard of hearing. With proudly uplifted tail she approached the wonderfully fragrant garbage heap. It promised meat, bones and guts to anyone who was brave or stupid enough to access it.
She hesitated. Dim light filled the yard, but it was not the dawn. Ghostly, yellow light seemed to wander the sky, as if a burning car were racing across the sky beyond the clouds. For a moment, the yard was lit up almost daylight, only to sink again into darkness.
Confused, she looked up to the sky, hesitating, but the scent of the pile lured.
Dull rumbling came from the old box, and a reddish-shimmering pair of eyes stared at her angrily. It was awake.”
The Black Cat is a new set of rules designed to make the peculiarities, skills and experiences of Aventurian intelligent cats playable. The rules for The Black Cat are much less simulation-oriented than the rules for The Black Eye. The goal is to keep the game narrative and, above all, much fluffier! With 2D20 you roll on useful talents like frying and caressing. Some control elements are reminiscent of DSA5, but the two systems are not compatible. The Black Cat is a stand-alone system that can only be played with the DSK rules. No DSA products are needed to enjoy the cat’s life. This also means that The Black Cat is NOT a canonical extension to The Dark Eye, but an independent game on the same background.
The Black Cat - what’s in it?
The Black Cat gives you the opportunity to explore the harbor metropolis of Havena from a whole new perspective, because for some adventures four delicate paws are much better suited than the feet of a two-legged hero. The 240-page hardcover rule book in A4 format includes:
- 3 cat breeds
- 3 cultures
- 10 cat-specific professions
- many ancestral gifts
- cat-typical weapons and clothing
- a very own view of the aventurian world of gods, for example the “lazy tomcat Praios”
- such an unprecedented regional description of Havena: “The center of the world - Havena’s fish market”!
In this crowdfunding you can get for the first time something very special, because The Black Cat comes in a limited version in a soft cover variant. Never before has there been a fluffier role-playing book than the soft-furred set of The Black Cat!
In addition, as part of this crowdfunding we will release the adventure anthology Night Howl with 3 furry adventures.
- Behind the Mirror (by Jens Ullrich)
- Rumbling Ghosts (by Julian Härtl)
- The dog of Orkendorf (by Carolina Möbis)
